| Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase expressing in mammalian cells widely is the unique selenoperoxidase that could directly reduce lipid hydroperoxides of biomembrane. It’s an important antioxidant enzyme,and plays vital role in protecting the cell membrane integrity and maintaining the normal cell function. As a structural material of sperm, it plays important role during sperm development and maturation. PHGPx activity is also an important index for semen quality evaluation. The development of PHGPx gene structure, distribution in tissue and the sperm development and maturation associated with the biological characteristics were summarized and described in this paper. |
