| Abstract: |
| 【Objective】With the increasing demand for high-quality rice in the market,scientifically evaluating of the grain planting benefits of high-quality rice and ordinary-quality rice is of vital significance for increase farmers income and steering future directions in rice breeding.【Method】Based on a survey data from rice farmers in Guangdong Province for the years 2021-2022,this paper uses the Endogenous Switching Regression model to evaluate the yield,cost and benefits associated with high-quality and ordinary-quality rice,Furthermore,it conducts an analysis of the grain planting benefits with respect to different cultivation season.【Result】(1)The yield of high-quality rice is lower than that of ordinary-quality rice. In high-quality rice fields and ordinary-quality rice fields, the yield of high-quality rice is 10.34% and 0.27% lower than that of ordinary-quality rice, respectively.(2)The cost of high-quality rice does not have an absolute advantage compared to ordinary-quality rice.In high-quality rice fields and ordinary-quality rice fields, the cost of high-quality rice increased by 0.93% and decreased by 7.62% compared to ordinary-quality rice, respectively.(3)The net profits of high-quality rice is higher than that of ordinary-quality rice. In high-quality rice fields and ordinary-quality rice fields,the net profits of high-quality rice is increase 4.69% and 45.44%, respectively.【Conclusion】Against the backdrop of rice production increasingly influenced by market factors, the area dedicated to high-quality rice is showing an overall expansion trend, which to some extent improves the profitability of rice cultivation but may also introduce the risk of reduced grain output.Balancing quality with moderate high yields should be an important direction for future rice breeding. |
