Abstract:
      【Objective】As Guizhou Province serves as an annual breeding area for S. frugiperda, the use of molecular markers to identify the biotype of S. frugiperda population in Guiyang, Guizhou, and studying its adaptability to corn, sorghum, and rice is crucial for clarifying the biotype of S. frugiperda invading Guiyang and understanding its biotype characteristics. 【Method】 Utilizing CO I and Tpi molecular marker methods, 32 fall armyworm samples from three counties and cities in Guiyang, Guizhou, were amplified, sequenced, and analyzed for comparison. This was done to determine the biotype of the invading population in Guiyang. The developmental duration, adult emergence rate, and survival duration of fall armyworm larvae of different instars after feeding on the three host plants were recorded to evaluate the adaptability of the fall armyworm to these host plants. 【Result】Based on mitochondrial CO I gene analysis, the results showed that 93.75% belonged to the rice biotype, while the corn biotype accounted for 6.25%. The sequence characteristics were highly consistent with the corresponding biotypes of S. frugiperda population. Meanwhile, the analysis of nuclear genome Tpi gene revealed that all samples exhibited the haplotype characteristics of the corn biotype. The adaptability study indicated that the invading S. frugiperda in Guiyang had the shortest larval period, longest adult survival time, and highest emergence rate on corn, followed by sorghum. In contrast, it had the longest larval period, shortest adult survival time, and lowest emergence rate on rice. 【Conclusion】The results of this study are beneficial for analyzing the origin of S. frugiperda invading Guizhou Province. It also provides a basis for the prevention and control of S. frugiperda on sorghum, which is of great significance for local authorities to conduct rapid and precise monitoring and prevention measures.
