| The morphological characteristic, living habit, growth, reproductive and karyotype of Astronotus ocellatus were studied and analyzed. Astronotus ocellatus is carnivores. They were able to adapt to a wide range of temperature,even the lowest was 11.4℃. The saulty experiments showed Astronotus ocellatus lived the sault 32, death rate was 23.7% and 15.4%. The relationship
between body length and weight of Astronotus ocellatus can be expressed by the equation: W=0.0911L2.7233（r=0.9612）. They reached to their first maturity at 1+, and produced spawns many times in one breeding period. The fertilized eggs were demersal and adhesive. The accumulative temperature in embryo period was 1 466.4℃.h. The number of diploid chromosome is 2n=48 and the
