The paper chose three landscape units which formed by plants in the Beijing Botanical Garden as the research object.
Through studying quantitative correlation between plant characteristics and visitors behavior, the paper analyzes the different influences of plant species and canopy density on the behavioral characteristics of visitors. The results showed that visitors of different ages varied on the selection of the plant environment: Older visitors tended to choose an environment with richer plant species and higher canopy. Also, the duration of activity was related with plant environment: Activities lasting more than 15 minutes tended to occur in an environment with few species of plants and low canopy density. Besides, type and nature of the behavior was affected by plant environment: Environment of rich plant species and high canopy density were more likely to trigger spontaneous and personal behavior. Finally, through a multiple
regression model, the paper further analyzed the intrinsic relationship between plant landscape and visitor behavior, and found that plant environment exerted significant influence on visitor behavior. Therefore, the construction of plant landscape can play a role in guiding the behavior of visitors. |
