In this study, Bdellovibrio -and-like organism strain BDH12 (GenBank accession No. EF094471) was
applied in a 63-day rearing of Haliotis diversicolor aquatilis, and its effects on abalone growth, the total number of
bacterial and Vibrio both in rearing water and abalone intestine and community structure of rearing water were investigated.
The results showed that the survival rate, abalone length and weight of BDH12 added groups significantly increased by
111%, 1.8% and 7.0%, respectively, compared with the control. The total number of bacterial and Vibrio of BDH12 added
tanks in abalone intestine significantly reduced by 8.6%-21.0% and 12.2%-27.7%, and in water they reduced by 2.1%-
16.7% and 8.0%-34.8%, respectively, compared with the control. PCR-DGGE profiles revealed that the richness value of
bacterial communities of the control and the test groups were 0.54-0.97 and 0.50-0.75. The results indicate that BDH12
can be used as a bio-control/probiotic agent in H. diversicolor aquatilis culture. |
