Abstract:
Xanthostemon chrysanthus is a characteristic landscape tree specie introduced and cultivated in South China, cold injury is one of the main factors which affecting its expansion of cultivated area. Taking X. chrysanthus under the conditions of natural cooling and artificial low temperature of Chongqing Yongchuan as materials, this study investigated the physiological response of X. chrysanthus to low temperature stress. The results showed that, the contents of proline, soluble protein, MDA and the activities of POD, SOD, CAT under natural cooling and artificial low temperature were higer than that of the contrast. The above indexes reached a maximum when the time of natural lowest temperature and artificial low temperature stress extended. The restoring growth test indicated that, the chilling injury indexes of seedling under 4℃for 72 h and natural overwinter in greenhouse were much lower than that of field cultivation in open field. It proved that X. chrysanthus had some cold resistance ability, and it could over wintering safely in Chongqing Yongchuan district.
