The effects of different modified atmosphere packaging(MAP) on the broccoli (Brassia oleracea L. var. Italica) quality maintenance by comparison with non-wrapped broccolis were studied. Broccoli heads were packaged using three types of film in thickness of 0.02 mm, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE), and then stored at 5for 30 d. The results revealed that three MAP improved the quality of broccoli after 30 d storage. BOPP films showed the most effective on broccoli preservation with high quality and appearance attributes, maintaining high contents of vitamin C, chlorophyll, soluble sugar and soluble protein, while keeping low mildew rate, browning rate, relative conductivity and MDA content in broccoli heads. PP films showed good effect but PE films a relatively weak effect. Therefore, BOPP could be selected as the broccoli MAP films. |
