The subfamily Panesthiinae (Blattaria: Blaberoidea) is one of wood-feeding cockroaches living in
decaying wood, is the important decomposer in forest ecological system, it mainly distributes in Australia, Malaysia,
Indonesia and Southeast Asia and other tropical and subtropical areas. Researches on the subfamily taxonomy is
morphological study in early, in recent years, some new species researched by molecular technology have been
reported. In NCBI, 59 taxa and 194 nucleotide sequences about Panesthiinae are found. Molecular phylogenetic
studies on this subfamily are abundant, to infer the evolutionary relationships among genera and species and
phylogenetic relationship. Moreover, these molecular evidences can be used to study the phylogeography, infer the
population diffusion and biological invasion time and way of insects in the subfamily, guess the geographical
historical events. In addition, some symbionts within the body of Panesthiinae species had been reported, and coevolution
was deep studied. At last, the prospect of application of new technology in the molecular study of
Panesthiinae was put forward. |
