Abstract: |
Agronomic traits of 10 strains of safflower with good material, coming from different populations, were
investigated to study the relationships between the seed yield per plant and main agronomic traits by correlation analysis
and path analysis. The results showed that the effects of correlation traits on seed yield are as follows:the number of total
cones per plant > the number of effective cones per plant > the number of secondly branches > the number of primary
branches > seed yield per fruit > stem height > the number of ineffective cones per plant > kernel weight, plant height >
branches and main stem angle > the diameter of cones. Multiple regression analysis indicated that stem height(X1),
the number of total cones per-plant(X7),the number of secondly branches(X8),seed yield per fruit(X10)
and kernel weight(X11)all directly affected the seed yield per plant. Multiple regression equation was as follow:
Y=35.2587+0.0579X1+1.5290X7-0.4211X8+0.6591X10+2.1317X11(F=56.5917**). Path analysis suggests that the
effect of the number of total cones per plant on seed yield per plant ranked the first, followed by seed yield per fruit, then
came the kernel weight, which were the main traits in safflower breeding. What’s more, seed yield per plant significantly
increased by reducing the number of ineffective cones per plant. Above all, strain with high seed yield per plant should
meet demands of moderate height, more primary branches, more effective balls and less ineffective ones, more seed
yield per fruit, large diameter in fruit ball and high kernel weight. |
