      Twelve…microsatellite…DNA…markers…were…used…to…assess…the…genetic…diversity…of…giant…freshwater…prawn… Macrobrachium rosenbergii of Guangxi…population…and…Guangdong…population…and…to…guide…the…selective…breeding…work.… The…results…showed…that, 12…microsatellite…loci…in…the…amplification…products…of…two…M. rosenbergii…groups…were…all… polymorphic, a…total…of…71…alleles…were…amplified, and…the…average…number…of…alleles…per…locus…was…5.92.…The…average… effective…number…of…alleles, observed…heterozygosity, expected…heterozygosity, and…polymorphism…information…content…of… Guangxi…population…were…3.9183, 0.9505, 0.7376, 0.6558, respectively, while…those…indexes…of…Guangdong…population… were…4.4374, 0.9413, 0.7609, 0.6834, respectively, which…had…higher…genetic…diversity…than…Guangxi…population.… Results…demonstrated…that…the…two…populations…of M. rosenbergii…both…had…high…genetic…diversity, which…had…great…potential… for…the…selective…breeding…of…M. rosenbergii.
