Abstract: |
In order to cultivate a new oil and ornamental tree peony Paeonia ostii Fengdan with high yield
and superior quality by cross breeding,105 accessions of Fengdan from five geographic sources such as Luoyang,
Shaoyang,Bozhou,Heze, and Tongling were crossed within same or between different geographic sources. In
addition,Fengdan were crossed with P. suffruticosa Zhongyuan Group and P. suffruticosa Japan Group with excellent
ornamental traits respectively. Results indicated that geographic sources played an unimportant role in seed yield
per plant. The seed number per fruit of artificial hybridization was more than that of natural hybridization, but the
single seed weight and size were lightly smaller than that of natural hybridization. Fengdan in different geographic sources were crossed with 7 cultivars of P. suffruticosa Zhongyuan Group, seed yield per plant of Luoyang Fengdan
× Xiangyu,Shaoyang Fengdan × Yumian Taohua,Heze Fengdan × Yumian Taohua,ShaoyangFengdan× Nihong
Huancai were more than 12 g. Fengdan in different geographic sources were crossed with 3 cultivars of P. suffruticosa
Japan Group, seed yield per plant of Luoyang Fengdan × Taiyang was the biggest(92.64 g). This study has laid
the research foundation to get high yield and superior quality cultivars with ornamental and oil value by traditional
breeding method. |
