Abstract:
The transformation of production mode has become a hot spot in the research of rice industry development in China. In this paper, using the DEA-Malmquist index method, we studied the total factor productivity of Chinese early indica rice, medium indica rice, late indica rice and japonica rice in 2004-2015 and its composition and trend. The results showed that the total factor productivity of early indica rice, medium indica rice, late indica rice and japonica rice in China from 2004 to 2015 was 1.009, 1.039, 1.008 and 1.041 respectively. The total factor productivity growth of the four types of rice was mainly from technological progress and it belonged to the technology-inducing development mode; judging from the development performance index, early indica rice is a low-level extensive production mode, and medium indica rice, late indica rice and japonica rice are moderately extensive production methods; Judging from the degree of extensiveness, China’s rice production methods have improved in the past 12 years, but overall it is still in the extensive development stage.
