Abstract:
      【Objective】The study was conducted to clarify the natural area range of Xuebaoding(5 588 m), the main peak of Minshan Mountain, and its surrounding areas. Xuebaoding and its surrounding areas are representative regions of the southwest mountainous area where the dual vulnerability of mountain ecosystems and karst ecosystems are superimposed, however, this area has not been uniformly determined in previous studies. 【Method】The hydrological analysis module of ArcGIS was used to extract small watershed units, and spatial superimposing analysis with the natural characteristic factors of the region(geologic structure, travertine resource, topography and vegetation division)to obtain the boundary of Xuebaoding basin. With the small watersheds as research units, a preliminary analysis on the spatial distribution characteristics of ecological and socio-economic factors in the research area was conducted.【Result】The natural geographic range of Xuebaoding basin is 103 °25'59"-104 °17'12" E, 32 °26'11"-33 °28'51" N, and the total area is about 6 988.97 km2, covering a total of 29 towns in 3 counties.【Conclusion】The study area has the largest number of small watersheds with an area of 10-30 km2, followed by 3-10 km2 and the main type is slope. Xuebaoding basin is strongly influenced by natural factors, but less affected by human activities. The areas surrounding the Baihe River Valley in the north and the Fujiang River Valley in the southeast are characterized by large slope, strong rainfall and high intensity of human activities. Attention should be paid to water conservation and geological disaster prevention.
